Case Studies

December 2025:
Retro meets Modern

I thought my days of working with DDR2 RAM, IDE cables and Floppy Drives were over! But thankfully one dedicated owner is keeping their XP-era computer going so they can continue to play their favourite retro games on their old faithful.

But when a power issue stopped the fun, it was time for me to jump in and see if we can keep this beauty going. Thankfully, on this occasion it was just a faulty PSU, one new modern PSU later and the computer was back up and running on all cylinders!

It wasn't enough to just change the PSU, I gave this computer the full works - New thermal paste on the CPU, cleaned out the fans and upgraded the RAM capacity to ensure it's owner can game to their hearts content :)

November 2025:
Random Access Memoryloss

Do you remember when 4GB was enough to run a laptop smoothly? Well so did this laptop but it just wasn't able to cope with the demand of modern Operating Systems. With an upgrade of double its old RAM capacity, this laptop is now working better than it used and able to cope a lot better with the demand of its user.

March 2025:
Repairing and Expanding

Network Attached Storage (NAS) are an amazing way to keep all your data in once place. Keeping your data safe, backed up and often available to you anywhere in the world, it can be your own cloud storage.

But sometimes drives fail, or it simply runs out of space. This is where the RAID configuration when the NAS is set up plays a big role when a drive starts to fail or you want to increase storage.

This NAS was looking worse for ware with a faulty drive so while replacing faulty drives the owner also wanted to double the storage. Two new drives later and it was back to storing those important documents, photos and videos.

September 2024:
All drained and nowhere to go...

Laptops are amazing at keeping you working on the move. Often meaning that the battery the most important component!

This laptop wasn't holding charge as well as it used to. A new battery later and it was up for hours of usage on battery power!

February 2024:
Not dataing fast enough

Upgrading a Hard Disc Drive (HDD) for Solid State Drive (SSD) is the most noticeable upgrade a computer or laptop can get in terms of operating speed and this laptop was no different!

With this upgrade becoming more affordable compared to when SSDs came on the market it is almost a no-brainer!

Once the new SSD was cloned from the original HDD and installed the owner was soon back to using their laptop at all new speeds!
